TREATABILITY STUDIES AND PILOT PROJECTS:

Treatability Studies and Pilot Projects sponsored by OSE and performed at the Microbial Ecology Laboratory Department of Microbiology at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez.

  1. Bioremediation of nitrate contaminated groundwater from Manatí - Vega Baja Aquifer.  A treatability study for the effectiveness of a denitrification compound for the nitrate contaminated groundwater.

  2. Anaerobic Bioremediation of Saturated Petroleum Hydrocarbon Contaminated Soil.  A treatability study to evaluate the effectiveness of anaerobic nitrate respiration to remediate of saturated soil contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons.

  3. Phytoremediation to remove heavy metals from ammunitions contaminated soil.  A treatability study to evaluate the phytoextraction of heavy metals and accumulation in the plants tissues.

  4. Bioremediation of Diesel Contaminated Soil Under Denitrifying Conditions at PREPA Gas Turbine Station, Vega Baja PR.  A pilot project to evaluate the effectiveness of bioremediation as an alternative for cleaning a diesel contaminated saturated soil using nitrate as an electron acceptor in the biological oxidation of hydrocarbons present in the soil.

  5. Bioaugmentation of Diesel Contaminated Soil at PREPA Gas Turbine Station, Vega Baja, PR.  A pilot project where indigenous denitrifying bacteria from the site were cultivated and enriched with nutrients.  This bioactive solution was injected into the contaminated soil to evaluate the reduction of petroleum hydrocarbons in the soil.

Since our beginning, we have successfully completed over one hundred (100) site investigations and soil and groundwater remediation projects."
